An impressive number of Harris cafés and roadside eateries have been awarded Travellers’ Choice awards from the traveller ratings website Tripadvisor.

The Travellers’ Choice award is based on customer reviews garnered during the year, with five-star ratings ensuring a high place in the ‘best of’ list.

No less than nine places in Harris have scored high in visitor approval, at locations from the Bays of Harris to Leverburgh.

Rated at number one, with five-star reviews from everyone who has eaten there, is the dining experience at Flavour, based in an industrial unit in Urgha. One reviewer said: “This jewel of a restaurant blends the most exquisite ingredients, atmosphere and fantastic service to create an amazing evening on the Isle of Harris.”

In Grosebay, the café and gallery at Skoon is described as a ‘5-star chill-out friendly visit’ while Lorna’s Larder on the Golden Road turnoff has ‘the best takeaway food anywhere.’

Also given Travellers’ Choice commendations were Leverburgh’s Butty Bus, with a venison sausage panini ‘to die for’ and the ‘honest regional cuisine’ at the Harris Hotel Restaurant in Tarbert.

The west of Harris also scored high for eateries travellers would choose, with a warm welcome in an exceptional setting at Talla na Mara and the ‘traditional elegance of a time gone by’ at Scarista House.

The listings are welcome endorsement for businesses who have battled through circumstances to get the show back on the road after lockdown.
