Southend FC have announced that the final total raised by their charity football match is £7000.

The amount comprises the money raised on the night, further contributions following the Old Timers v Southend FC match, and a contribution from the club.

Announcing the final figure last night (Mon, April 22), Southend FC said: “We are grateful to each and every one of you for contributing to and supporting our recent fundraiser for the Schiehallion Ward.

“With continued donations and the club’s own contribution, the grand total of £7000 will be making its way to the ward soon. Just incredible.”

The charity match at Daliburgh School last week saw the current Southend squad beat former club players 6 - 0 in front of a crowd of over 100. Donations on the night amounted to £5,543.

The match was live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

The charity match was in aid of the NHS GCC Schiehallion Ward and in support of young fan Layla, who, along with parents Neil John and Shona, selected the charity.
